(Reuters) – Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ 🙂 & # 39; s chief of advertising integrity, who handled the company's ad products on sensitive topics like politics and coronavirus misinformation, left this week. This comes from an internal company post that Reuters watched on Friday.
Rob Leathern, director of product management, said on Facebook's internal network earlier this month that he would be leaving the company on December 30th. His exit had not previously been reported.
Facebook could not be reached immediately for comment.
Leathern said in the post that he was "leaving Facebook to work on consumer privacy beyond consumers and social media" without revealing where he was going.
Leathern has often been the public face of the company's controversial political advertising policies. Prior to the November 3rd US election, Facebook was heavily criticized for spreading misleading claims and conspiracy theories on its platforms.
In November Leathern tweeted that Facebook does not have "the short-term technical ability to enable political ads by state or advertiser." Facebook then lifted a temporary ban on political advertisements in post-election Georgia that would determine which party controls the US Senate, ahead of the January 5 runoff election.
