You don't have to do anything – and the service is not interrupted
Shell Energy says it will be in touch with affected customers for more information once the deal is officially closed. However, it adds that you don't have to do anything and the switch will be done automatically.
The company adds that your service will never be disrupted and that you can continue to use the same broadband and home phone devices, including your router.
When customers migrate to the Shell Energy platform during 2021, they will also have access to some of the benefits of a Shell Energy customer, such as: B. to fuel discounts through the Shell GO + program.
Prices don't change and you can still pay bills the same way
Shell Energy adds that the price currently paid will not increase or change after the switch – regardless of whether you are inside or outside of your minimum contract. That's because you're sticking to your existing terms and conditions – even after the deal is closed.
You can continue to pay your bill as before. If you pay in the post offices, you can continue to do so. However, Shell Energy has not yet been able to tell us at this point whether they need to change the payment details. If you pay by direct debit, this will be transferred automatically.
If you're not happy with the move, see if you can switch and save
Of course, you don't have to wait to switch to Shell to switch broadband providers as long as you no longer have a contract. Check out our roundup of cheap broadband deals to see if you can switch and save.
However, if you are currently within your minimum contract, the transfer will not leave you unpunished as your terms and conditions will not change. So before switching, check to see if you will be charged an early exit fee.
If Shell Energy were to change Post Office's terms and conditions in the future, unhappy customers could leave with no penalty as long as the change resulted in "material disadvantages".
