Covid's recent aid package offers workers 11 additional weeks of unemployment benefits. Many, but not all, are entitled to four more for a total of 15 weeks.

However, during this four week period, they will not receive a $ 300 weekly benefit increase.

The $ 900 billion measure extended two federal temporary unemployment programs that will support millions of Americans through 2021.

On the one hand, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance provides benefits for the self-employed and other people who are normally not eligible for state aid. The other, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, is available to those who have exhausted standard government benefits, which typically last up to six months.

Both of these created by the CARES Act were supposed to end on the weekend after Christmas. Now workers can get help until March 13th or 14th. (The exact end date will depend on each state's administrative calendar.)

However, many people may receive support for an additional month during an "exit period" ending April 10th or 11th. (Again, this will vary by state.)

Eligibility for these additional payments depends on how long the employees have received benefits.

The Aid Act allows PUA and PEUC recipients to access help for up to 50 weeks. Workers who started collecting benefits at the beginning of the pandemic will hit this mark in mid-March.

Employees who do not reach the 50-week threshold by March 14th are entitled to benefits until April 11th.

In particular, the federal government will not pay these individuals a $ 300 weekly increase. This supplement is only available until March 14th.
