Scottish Energy is taking on Yorkshire Vitality's 74,000 prospects

Energy regulator Ofgem has hired the six major companies to supply Yorkshire Energy's 74,000 household customers. The changeover starts yesterday (Sunday, December 6th).

When you are a Yorkshire Energy customer you will NOT lose your gas or electricity supply and your funds will be protected. Scottish Power should be in touch in the coming days to let you know what happens next. They will also be updated again when the transfer is complete and your account is fully set up.

Once you're set up with Scottish Power, you can use our free Cheap Energy Club to see if you can save by switching.

I was at Yorkshire Energy – what happens now?

If you are a Yorkshire Energy customer, gas and electricity will continue to operate as usual and there will be no business interruption.

Scottish Power, with five million household and business customers across the UK, will be writing to you in the next few days to keep you updated on the latest developments. It will contact you again to let you know how to set up your account.

Your current Yorkshire Energy plan will end and you will receive what is known as an "accepted", ie standard, plan. The tariff will not be the cheapest, but there are no redemption fees. Once you've moved, you can find another listing.

If Scottish Power contacts you to confirm that you have been transferred, use our free Cheap Energy Club to see if you can save by switching. However, it is best to wait until you hear from Scottish Power as there may be a long delay in switching before the transfer is complete or switching may not happen.

To be on the safe side, it is also worth checking a meter reading in the next few days in case you have a billing dispute later. If you need further assistance, Ofgem has extensive FAQs.
