Thousands and thousands of households get a mean of £ 10.40 again after 18 utilities overload switchers
According to the Ofgem rules, a customer’s existing tariff should be adhered to during the conversion process, which can take an average of 18 days for gas and an average of 16 days for electricity. However, Ofgem found that 18 suppliers – including British Gas, EDF, Eon, Npower, Scottish Power and SSE – incorrectly billed an additional £ 7.2 million for switchers between 2013 and 2020.
The companies involved have agreed to reimburse all affected customers and, in some cases, to make additional goodwill payments totaling £ 10.4 million. Ofgem is currently not taking any further action as the suppliers are working together and agreeing compensation. However, the regulator warns against taking action if suppliers fail to comply with their price protection rules in the future.
